The dirty little secret I’d like to share with you today has to do with why your insurance is not covering certain procedures for you. I overhear a lot of patients say “Oh, my insurance doesn’t cover that because it’s cosmetic”, or “My insurance doesn’t cover this because of this”.
Here is the inside scoop, the down and dirty -your insurance does not cover specific procedures because it’s not within their profitability margin. It does not mean that you don’t need it. So, when our dentists recommend a crown or implnat and the crown or implant is not covered, it doesn’t mean that it’s not needed or the insurance doesn’t feel that it’s needed, It’s that is not covered in your specific plan.
Thankfully your Insurance company and your dental office are working together to get you the best possible dental care, but sometimes, like any good relationship there is a difference of opinion. Sometimes, you have to agree to disagree all for the sake of that amazing SMILE!
You need to kind of step away from that insurance mindset because the insurance company is working within the boundaries of what is possible for them to fund and that may or may not be within your best interest, nor for your best smile! If you get a recommendation from your dentist and it doesn’t match up with what’s covered by your insurance plan – Do Not Panic! Do Not Fall Into That Trap!
